ARLINGTON -- The A's continued their recent mastery against the Rangers with a 4-1 victory in the opener of a four-game, season-ending series at Globe Life Park on Thursday night. Texas lost its seventh game in a row.
The A's have won seven straight games against the Rangers, their longest winning streak against them since a seven-game streak in 2005. Oakland is two games behind Texas for fourth place in the American League West.
A fifth-inning leadoff home run by Matt Chapman (2-for-3 with two RBIs) and a two-run single by Ryon Healy in the sixth helped A's starter Sean Manaea notch his 12th win. Manaea allowed one unearned run on three hits and three walks, while striking out six, in 6 2/3 innings.

"He was efficient early in the game, early-count contact, pitched out of a couple jams," A's manager Bob Melvin said. "That's finishing on a strong note for a guy that was really grinding toward the end. Had a couple bouts this season with adversity and pitched through it, and he will be better for it come next year."
• Manaea ends erratic season with stellar outing
Rangers starter Miguel Gonzalez took the loss in his fifth start since being acquired from the White Sox, despite allowing three runs over six innings. After being acquired on Aug. 31, Gonzalez went 1-3 with a 6.45 ERA.
"I love it. ... It's a great clubhouse," Gonzalez said. "I had a great time. That doesn't mean I won't come back, it all depends on what happens this offseason. But I had a blast with these guys."

MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
A's muster two-out hits: The A's entered the game hitting .217 with two outs, the lowest mark in the American League. But they collected three straight hits in the sixth to take a 3-1 lead. Jed Lowrie singled and Khris Davis followed with a double, putting runners on second and third. Healy then singled to center to plate two runs, after he entered hitting .190 with runners in scoring position with two outs.

Hendriks gets back Andrus: A's reliever Liam Hendriks took over for Manaea with two outs and the bases loaded in the seventh to face Elvis Andrus. Hendriks retired him on a fly ball to right to end the threat. Back on May 13, Andrus had a bases-loaded, two-run single off Hendriks in the seventh inning in a 6-5 Rangers victory that night.
"He's been great, absolutely great," Melvin said of Hendriks. "That's the matchup we have for him. It's not an easy assignment. Andrus is really good in clutch situations, but numbers-wise that's our best matchup going into the at-bat, 1-for-15."

UPON FURTHER REVIEW
Rangers designated hitter Willie Calhoun was hit by a pitch with no outs in the seventh. The pitch was originally called a foul ball, but the Rangers challenged and the call was reversed.

WHAT'S NEXT
A's: Right-hander Raul Alcantara starts against the Rangers at 5:05 p.m. PT on Friday at Globe Life Park. Alcantara has not allowed a run in 8 2/3 innings over his last two starts, including five frames against the Rangers last Saturday.
Rangers: Left-hander Martin Perez makes his last start for the Rangers this season at 7:05 p.m. CT on Friday. Perez is 7-2 with a 3.63 ERA in his last 10 starts. He is 6-7 with a 5.29 ERA in 15 career starts against the A's.
