NEW YORK -- Count Matt Harvey among those at least willing to consider a contract extension with the Mets.
"I've never shied away from it," Harvey told reporters Monday at Port St. Lucie, Fla., where he reported to Mets camp two days early. "I've never said I wouldn't consider it."

Mets officials have long viewed signing Harvey, 26, to a long-term deal unlikely. In addition to the pitcher's clashes with team brass over the years, his agent, Scott Boras, is widely known for taking almost all of his top clients to free agency.

Still, it is possible that common ground could exist. Like Jacob deGrom, who said last week he would be willing to talk about an extension with the Mets, Harvey noted that the team has yet to approach him. Until that happens, no windows are closed.

General manager Sandy Alderson indicated earlier this month that the Mets could test the financial waters with one or more of their young pitchers during Spring Training. The Mets under Alderson have a history of signing players to extensions during this time of year -- most notably Jon Niese and Juan Lagares.
Harvey is due to make $4.325 million this season, and is under team control for three more seasons. He will be the first of the Mets' vaunted young starting pitchers eligible for free agency, with deGrom and Noah Syndergaard to follow.
