PHOENIX -- Cardinals left field Matt Holliday left Monday's series opener against the D-backs midway through the third inning due to a right leg cramp. He was not available after the 12-7 loss to explain the issue in more detail, but manager Mike Matheny downplayed the severity.
The Cardinals listed Holliday as day to day.
Holliday helped St. Louis to an early lead by driving home a first-inning run with a triple off Zack Greinke. He then scored on an RBI groundout by Brandon Moss. Holliday grounded out in his third-inning at-bat, then did not take his position in the bottom half of the frame.

"He felt a little something with the triple and scoring on the contact play," Matheny said. "[Then] it was tight when he was heading down to first base, and it was time to get him out."
Holliday was replaced in the field by Jeremy Hazelbaker, who went on to become the first player in franchise history to hit a home run and triple in a game he didn't start.
