JUPITER, Fla. -- Matt Holliday went 2-for-2 with his first home run of spring and Carlos Martinez pitched six strong innings to lift the Cardinals to a 3-1 win over the Mets at Roger Dean Stadium on Monday.
Meeting for the fifth and final time this spring, both the Cardinals and Mets were eyeing some sort of positive momentum. St. Louis entered the day with one win in its last 13 games. The Mets are now winless in 11 straight.
Holliday teed off on a first-inning pitch by Mets starter Bartolo Colon and sent it off the top of a building beyond the left-field fence. He sparked the scoring again in the fourth with a leadoff single. A ground-rule double by Matt Adams and productive groundout from Eric Fryer, a late lineup replacement for Yadier Molina, pushed the go-ahead run across.
Colon completed six innings for the second straight start and struck out five. Randal Grichuk's RBI double in the sixth plated a third run off Colon, who finished Grapefruit League play with a 6.08 ERA. He threw 92 pitches, 68 strikes, on Monday.

The Mets used Neil Walker's leadoff double in the second to push a run across against Martinez, but otherwise they had little success against the Cardinals' starter. Following Walker's hit, Martinez retired 13 straight. He struck out four, including Yoenis Cespedes to close his six-inning outing.
"I knew I was facing a good hitter," Martinez said, "so I'm going to give it all I've got on that guy."
Martinez, who is slated to make his season debut on April 9, threw 49 of his 67 pitches for strikes. He was the first Cardinals starter to finish six innings in a game this spring and got extra work throwing in the bullpen after he exited to further stretch out his pitch count.
"It was fun to watch him kind of walk Fryer through it instead of having a catcher walk him through it," Cardinals manager Mike Matheny said. "He did a real nice job of setting the tone, using everything. It was a great mix."
Mets shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera went 0-for-3 in his first Grapefruit League appearance since March 10. Cabrera had been nursing an injury to the patella tendon in his left knee.
Up next for the Mets: David Wright will make the first of four straight starts on Tuesday against the Marlins in a 1:10 p.m. ET game at Tradition Field. Up next for the Cardinals: Adam Wainwright, who will be the team's Opening Day starter on Sunday, will have his final Grapefruit League tuneup on Tuesday when the Cardinals host the Nationals at 12:05 p.m. CT.
