Moore notches third successful rehab start

ST. PETERSBURG -- Rays left-handed pitcher Matt Moore successfully got through his third rehab start Tuesday at Class A Port Charlotte, tossing 78 pitches -- 49 strikes -- in 4 2/3 innings.

"I think I built from the last [rehab start]," Moore said. "We were kind of able to lose ourselves in the competition, which is what these rehab starts are for right now -- to kind of forget about the rehab and just get into the competition. And I think we were able to do that today."

Moore surrendered two runs on four hits while striking out three, but he allowed a home run to Raph Rhymes and a triple to Francisco Martinez off of changeups during the outing.

"I didn't have too much of a feel for a breaking ball until the fourth inning, and two of the four hits were on changeups that were up when I was ahead in the count," Moore said. "If that pitch is controlled a little better, those might be ground balls or swing-and-misses."

Moore said that the next stop on his rehab tour will be Triple-A Durham, but he was not sure how many more starts he would need before returning to the Rays.
