MRI results return clean for Wieters, Jones

BALTIMORE -- Orioles Matt Wieters and Adam Jones underwent recent MRIs for their nagging injuries that both came back clean, manager Buck Showalter said on Friday.

Wieters was out of the starting lineup against the Royals with nagging left wrist soreness while Jones -- who has been dealing with a shoulder issue -- returned to Friday's lineup after three days of rest. Jones left Monday's game early with the injury, though he's made no secret that he's dealing with a host of things right now.

"Wanted to take advantage of the off-day [on Thursday], see if we could make it a little more comfortable for him with three days off of it," Showalter said. "I know what he's going to say. Sometimes you have to take that out of play. Same way with Matt.

"Hopefully, Matt will be good to go tomorrow. He's available in some fashion [for the series opener]."

Showalter stressed that Wieters -- who returned from Tommy John surgery in June -- is dealing with just a wrist issue and it has nothing to do with his elbow. Showalter also didn't think that Wieters playing on Tuesday made the issue worse.

"He said no," Showalter said. "It's about the same."
