Williams plans to get Espinosa into game this weekend
Entering Friday, infielder is only Nats position player yet to play
PHILADELPHIA -- Entering Friday action, infielder Danny Espinosa is the only position player on the Nationals to not get in a game during the regular season and manager Matt Williams is aware of it.
At the same time, Williams wants to put out the best team to win every night. With that being said, Williams plans to play Espinosa during the Phillies series this weekend.
"It's a tough situation sometimes with the lineup out there that you feel good about winning games, certainly depending on matchups and all the information that we got," Williams said. "We try to balance it. It's not easy."
It wouldn't come as a surprise if Espinosa started in Saturday's game with right-hander Doug Fister on the mound. Fister is a groundball pitcher and Williams has started Espinosa a few games last year when Fister took the ball.
"We want to get [Espinosa] in there more than once a week. That's for sure," Williams said. "It depends on where we are at, what's going on -- health, nix and dings and things of that nature. That's an everyday dilemma, an everyday question. We'll try to do it accordingly," Williams said.
