Maybin undergoes successful wrist surgery

SAN DIEGO -- Padres center fielder Cameron Maybin underwent successful arthroscopic surgery on his right wrist Friday, manager Bud Black said.

After the Padres' 4-3 win over Colorado, Black said Maybin should be fully healthy by the time Spring Training begins next year, and he added that the speedy outfielder may be on the field long before that.

"All told, we expect a full recovery and ready for 2014 -- if not before," Black said. "Maybe a December winter ball situation if he heals quickly."

After averaging 142 games in the two previous seasons, Maybin played in just 14 this year, hitting .157 in 51 at-bats.
