McAllister plays catch; finger sprain improving

CLEVELAND -- Indians starter Zach McAllister said Saturday that he's now able to play catch.

McAllister has been on the 15-day disabled list since June 3 because of a right middle finger sprain. The Indians right-hander said the swelling has gone down and that he's feeling better every day.

"I'm set to play catch," McAllister said. "As long as it takes for me to get ready, it can be sooner than later, but I can't control that."

McAllister is 4-5 with a 3.43 ERA over 11 starts this season. In his last outing, he surrendered a season-high five runs to Tampa Bay.

"I could feel it a little bit after my start," he said. "Obviously, I didn't throw my curveball, so I didn't feel it at all because I didn't throw it. But I knew that if I would have thrown it, it probably wouldn't have felt too good."
