Medical update on RHP Jenrry Mejia

The New York Mets today announced that RHP Jenrry Mejia underwent X-ray and MRI tests this morning at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York and was diagnosed with posterior elbow inflammation. He received a cortisone injection and will not be available to pitch competitively for at least 10 days.

Consequently, Mejia will be placed on the 15-Day Disabled List retroactive to April 5, and will be replaced on the active roster with RHP Erik Goeddel, who will be recalled from Las Vegas (AAA) of the Pacific Coast League. Goeddel is expected to report to the Mets in time for the game Wednesday in Washington, D.C.

Goeddel, 26, made his major league debut last year appearing in six games in September for the Mets. He was 3-2 with 64 strikeouts and a 5.37 ERA (38 earned runs/63.2 innings) in 49 games for Las Vegas in 2014.

Goeddel will wear #62. He went 1-0 with two saves and a 3.86 ERA (five earned runs/11.2 innings) in 12 spring games for New York.
