Mets acquire LHP Eric O'Flaherty from Oakland

FLUSHING, N.Y., August 4, 2015 - The New York Mets today announced the club has acquired LHP Eric O'Flaherty and cash considerations from the Oakland Athletics in exchange for a player to be named later. To make room on the 25-man roster, the Mets designated LHP Alex Torres for assignment.

O'Flaherty, 30, was designated for assignment by the A's on August 1. The Walla Walla, WA native was 1-2 with a 5.91 ERA (14 earned runs/21.1 innings) in 25 games for Oakland this year. He was on the Disabled List from May 2-June 2 with a left shoulder strain.

Over the last five years (2011-2015), he has recorded a 2.03 ERA (43 earned runs/190.1 innings), the fourth-lowest mark in the majors (minimum 160.0 innings).

The lefthander posted a 1.99 ERA (55 earned runs/249.1 innings) from 2009-2013 while pitching for Atlanta. He is 22-11 with a 2.99 ERA (120 earned runs/360.2 innings) in 419 major league games with the Mariners, Braves and Athletics during his 10-year major league career.

O'Flaherty has held lefthanders to a .201 (114-567) batting average during his career.

Torres, 27, did not have a decision while posting a 3.15 ERA (12 earned runs/34.1 innings) with one save in 39 games with the Mets this season.
