The New York Mets announced today that they have acquired righthanded pitchers Stephen Nogosek, Jamie Callahan and Gerson Bautista from Boston in exchange for righthanded pitcher Addison Reed.
Nogosek, 22, is 4-4 with 19 saves and a 3.06 ERA (18 earned runs/53.0 innings) in 36 relief appearances between Greenville (A) of the South Atlantic League and Salem (A) of the Carolina League this year. The righthander has 63 strikeouts in those 53.0 innings of work. He was ranked as the Red Sox 18^th-best prospect by MLB.com and was named to the South Atlantic League mid-season All-Star team this season. The 6-2, 205-pounder is 5-6 with a 3.25 ERA (29 earned runs/80.1 innings), 21 saves and 94 strikeouts in 56 career minor league appearances, all in relief. He was Boston's sixth-round pick in the 2016 First-Year Player Draft from the University of Oregon.
Callahan, 22, is 5-2 with a 3.21 ERA (15 earned runs/42.0 innings) with 56 strikeouts in 32 appearances between Portland (AA) of the Eastern League and Pawtucket (AAA) of the International League this year. The 6-2, 230-pounder was ranked the 23^rd-best prospect by MLB.com. He was the Red Sox second-round pick of the 2012 First-Year Player Draft from Dillon High School (SC) where he was the Gatorade South Carolina Baseball Player of the Year. The righthander allowed one run over 12.0 innings (0.75 ERA) in the Arizona Fall League in 2016. Callahan is 26-25 with 16 saves and a 4.79 ERA (199 earned runs/374.0 innings) with 363 strikeouts in 142 career minor league appearances, including 47 starts.
Bautista, 22, is 3-2 with four saves, 53 strikeouts and a 5.16 ERA (26 earned runs/45.1 innings) in 27 games for Salem (A) of the South Atlantic League this season. The 6-2, 170-pounder was Boston's 28^th-best prospect according to MLB.com and Baseball America ranked his fastball as the best in the Red Sox system prior to the season. He joined the Red Sox after signing as an international free agent in 2013. Bautista is 9-10 with 10 saves, 162 strikeouts and a 2.74 ERA (59 earned runs/193.2 innings) in 75 minor league games, 23 starts.
Reed was 1-2 with 19 saves and a 2.57 ERA (14 earned runs/49.0 innings) in 48 games with the Mets this season. He has a 125 career saves over seven major league seasons with Arizona, Chicago-AL and New York.
