Can the defending National League champion Mets keep the good times rolling?
They took a nice step forward on Tuesday when they officially re-signed outfielder Yoenis Cespedes, who will be back in the Mets' outfield this season. But New York will need reinforcements in the future to remain among the best teams in the NL. MLBPipeline.com on Friday night announced its preseason 2016 Top 100 Prospects list, and the Mets have four players on it.

The list includes:
15. LHP Steven Matz
51. 1B Dominic Smith
79. SS Amed Rosario
87. SS Gavin Cecchini
Matz, 24, retains his prospect status, despite making six starts and pitching 35 2/3 innings last year. But Matz will not be on this list very long. He posted a 2.27 ERA in the regular season, then a 3.68 ERA in three postseason starts, including a start in Game 4 of the World Series. He will open the season in the Mets' rotation, giving New York one of the youngest and most exciting rotations in baseball.

Smith, 20, is considered the No. 3 first-base prospect in baseball. The Mets selected him 11th overall in the 2013 Draft. Smith lived up to the hype last season, earning Florida State League MVP honors. He hit .305 with 33 doubles, six home runs, 79 RBIs and a .771 OPS with St. Lucie. Smith also played well in the Arizona Fall League, posting a .994 OPS in 60 plate appearances.

Rosario, 20, and Cecchini, 22, play the same premium position, which is a nice problem to have for any organization. Rosario hit a combined .253 with a .631 OPS last season with Class A St. Lucie and Double-A Binghamton. Cecchini hit .317 with an .819 OPS last season with Binghamton.
