Wright gets two hits, plays 8 innings in rehab game

NEW YORK -- A foreboding weather forecast held off long enough for David Wright to complete a full rehab game on Friday, finishing 2-for-5 for Class A Advanced St. Lucie and playing eight innings in the field.

The Mets originally hoped for Wright to play a full game Thursday, before rain cut his evening short after only one at-bat. Ultimately, the team would like to see Wright play in three consecutive games before taking another off day, but midsummer weather conditions -- it's due to rain every day next week in Port St. Lucie, Fla. -- could force a change in plans. If rain interferes enough, manager Terry Collins said, the team may even consider moving Wright's rehab to another Minor League affiliate.

Wright's stated goal is to receive approximately 30 Minor League plate appearances before rejoining the Mets, a schedule that could have him on track to come off the disabled list as soon as next weekend in Colorado. The third baseman, who has been sidelined since April due to spinal stenosis, has been playing in games since Aug. 10 with 13 plate appearances to his credit.

Wright, 32, was hitting .333 with one home run in eight games before going on the DL.
