NEW YORK -- Mets manager Terry Collins was released from a Milwaukee hospital on Monday, and was en route back to New York, after missing Sunday's game against the Brewers due to illness. The Mets expect him to be in uniform to manage Tuesday's series opener against the Pirates.
Though Collins was feeling better by late Sunday afternoon, according to Mets assistant general manager John Ricco, ultimately leaving Miller Park under his own power, the Mets sent him to Froedtert Hospital in Milwaukee for further tests and observation. Everything came back negative, allowing Collins to depart the following day.
Head athletic trainer Ray Ramirez stayed behind with Collins in Milwaukee, consulting alongside Froedtert's Dr. Brian-Fred Fitzsimmons. Bench coach Dick Scott managed in Collins' stead during the Mets' 5-3 loss to the Brewers.
Collins, 67, is the oldest manager in the Major Leagues. He is 428-444 over six seasons with the Mets, and he signed a two-year contract extension Nov. 3.
