NEW YORK -- Noah Syndergaard's rehab from a partial tear in his right lat is being delayed at least one day, according to Mets manager Terry Collins. Syndergaard was scheduled to toss live batting practice on Wednesday, but the Mets scrapped those plans as a precaution.
"We decided we're going to err on the side of caution and give him extra time. I think maybe we were kind of pushing it maybe a little fast, trying to get him back," Collins said before the Mets faced the D-backs. "So we're just going to delay it a day or so."
On the disabled list since May 1, Syndergaard's next step in his rehab is still to throw a successful live batting practice session. The typical next step that follows is a rehab assignment. That will all be temporarily pushed back, but Collins said it's not because Syndergaard suffered a setback. Rather, the decision was made at the recommendation of the training staff.
"They just said they'd like to take an extra day with him," Collins said. "Whether it's tomorrow or the next day, I think you'll see it soon, that he'll throw to some hitters."
Lugo inching toward return
Seth Lugo, currently on the 10-day disabled list with a right shoulder impingement, was scheduled to throw what Collins called a "touch-and-feel" session Wednesday, before the righty is reevaluated Friday. If all is well and Lugo can throw a bullpen session in the coming days, there's a chance he could return to the mound at some point this weekend.

The Mets need an extra starter because of a doubleheader on Sunday in Washington, although it's unknown if Lugo will require rehab starts before returning to the Majors.
Collins gets positive report on Wright
David Wright was scheduled to be back in the lineup for Class A Advanced St. Lucie on Wednesday in his second rehab start at designated hitter, but the game in Port Charlotte, Fla., was postponed due to rain. Collins said he spoke to Wright following his first professional baseball game in approximately 15 months, during which the Mets' captain went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts.
"Obviously, a little rusty, but he's fired up [to continue his rehab]," Collins said.
Throwing remains Wright's biggest hurdle to a return to the Mets, although the team has discussed having him only hit in the Majors this year. Collins hopes Wright can play a game in the field sometime in the near future.
"That'll be a good day," he said.
