Blister on mend, Matz set for Friday start
WASHINGTON -- Steven Matz threw a 25-pitch bullpen session Wednesday and remains on track to make his next start Friday in Atlanta. The Mets cut short Matz's last outing after 81 pitches due to a blister on his left middle finger.
Since that time, he has been applying a solution to his finger to harden the skin.
"Other than that," Matz said, "it's just kind of time."
Barring a setback, Matz will make his fourth big league start Friday against the Braves. He is 2-0 with a 1.89 ERA over his first three outings and remains a strong candidate for the playoff rotation.
• The Mets hope to have outfielder Michael Cuddyer back in the starting lineup in time to face left-hander Manny Banuelos on Friday. Cuddyer has not played since Sept. 2 due to right wrist discomfort.
