Mets place Juan Lagares on the DL; recall Kirk Nieuwenhuis

FLUSHING, N.Y., April 15, 2014 - The New York Mets today announced the club has placed outfielder Juan Lagares on the 15-Day Disabled List with a pulled right hamstring and recalled outfielder Kirk Nieuwenhuis from Las Vegas (AAA) of the Pacific Coast League.

Nieuwenhuis will wear #9 and will be available for tonight's game. He was hitting .310 (13-42) with 10 runs scored, two doubles, two home runs and eight RBI in 10 games with the 51s.

The 6-3, 225-pounder batted .189 (18-95) with three home runs and 14 RBI in 47 games with the Mets last season. Nieuwenhuis, 26, has hit .236 (89-377) with 10 home runs and 42 RBI in 138 major league games.
