NEW YORK -- Mets reliever Jim Henderson, who returned to the Majors this year following a second shoulder surgery, is back on the disabled list with an injury in that joint. The Mets placed Henderson on the DL before Tuesday's game and recalled left-hander Sean Gilmartin, who had been starting games for Triple-A Las Vegas.
Henderson, 33, left Sunday's game against the Braves with a right shoulder impingement, and had an MRI the following day. He owned a 4.26 ERA in 31 appearances, though that hardly tells the story of his season. Henderson posted a 0.93 ERA over his first 14 games, then a 6.32 mark over his last 17. The former Brewers closer allowed five runs over his final 4 1/3 innings prior to landing on the DL.
Gilmartin, a Rule 5 pick last year, was 8-3 with a 4.48 ERA in Las Vegas' rotation. But he threw five shutout innings during a brief spell in the big leagues last month, after posting a 2.67 ERA mostly out of the bullpen last season.
