Mets recall infielder Jordany Valdespin; option RHP Jeremy Hefner to Buffalo

FLUSHING, N.Y., April 23, 2012 – The New York Mets announced the club has recalled infielder Jordany Valdespin from Buffalo (AAA) of the International League prior to today’s second game of their doubleheader vs. San Francisco and optioned righthanded pitcher Jeremy Hefner to Buffalo.

Valdespin, 24, was hitting .276 (13-76) with one double, two home runs, seven RBI and two stolen bases in 17 games with the Bisons.

The 6-0, 190-pounder hit .310 (13-42) with one double, one triple, one home run, four RBI and stole three bases in 20 games with the Mets during Spring Training this year.

Valdespin combined to hit .294 (150-511) with Binghamton (AA) of the Eastern League and Buffalo last year with 32 doubles, 17 home runs and 60 RBI.

Hefner, 26, made his major league debut in the first game of today’s doubleheader tossing 3.0 scoreless innings.
