Mets select LHP Sean Gilmartin in Rule 5 draft

The New York Mets announced today that the club selected lefthanded pitcher Sean Gilmartin from the Minnesota Twins in the Rule 5 draft.

Gilmartin, 24, went 9-7 with a 3.71 ERA (60 earned runs/145.2 innings) in 26 starts between New Britain (AA) of the Eastern League and Rochester (AAA) of the International League in 2014.

The 6-2, 190-pounder held lefties to a .201 (30-149) mark with five extra-base hits (all doubles) while issuing four walks and registering 49 strikeouts last year.

Gilmartin was drafted by the Braves in the first round of the 2011 First Year Player Draft from Florida State University. He was acquired by the Twins on December 18, 2013 in exchange for Ryan Doumit.

In four minor league seasons, Gilmartin is 21-27 with a 4.05 ERA (194 earned runs/431.0 innings) in 80 games, 79 starts.
