Mets option Monell, recall Recker

ST. LOUIS -- The Mets announced after Sunday's 3-1, 18-inning win over the Cardinals that they have optioned catcher Johnny Monell to Triple-A Las Vegas and recalled catcher Anthony Recker.

The move comes after rookie Kevin Plawecki caught the entire series finale at Busch Stadium.

Monell appeared as a pinch-hitter with two outs and the bases loaded in the bottom of the 13th after the Mets had taken a one-run lead, but he popped up to end the frame. He was batting .178 with a .245 on-base percentage.

Recker batted .143 with two home runs and a .276 OBP in 49 at-bats with the Mets earlier this season and has a .191 average with 16 home runs and a .266 OBP in 424 career Major League at-bats. He was hitting .293 with seven homers and a .398 OBP in 75 at-bats over 21 games at Triple-A Las Vegas this season.
