Ceremony, giveaways highlight Piazza Weekend

Mets to retire Hall of Famer's No. 31 on Saturday, live on MLB.com

July 28th, 2016

NEW YORK -- Last week, Mike Piazza was enshrined in the National Baseball Hall of Fame. This weekend, he'll be honored in Queens, the borough where he turned into an icon. It'll be Piazza Weekend at Citi Field, where the catcher's No. 31 will be retired on Saturday in a ceremony that will be streamed live on MLB.com.
Piazza is the fourth Met to have his number retired, joining Casey Stengel (No. 37), Gil Hodges (No. 14) and Tom Seaver (No. 41). No. 42 is retired across the Major Leagues for Jackie Robinson.
The festivities don't end there, though. Piazza's Hall of Fame plaque will be on display all weekend at Citi Field, and fans will receive a Piazza replica jersey on Friday. In addition, the first 15,000 fans Sunday will get a Piazza bobblehead.
The Mets, who are in the National League Wild Card mix, will finish out a four-game series against the Rockies on Sunday.
