Mets sign Carlyle, 3 others to Minors deals

The Mets added to their organizational depth on Monday, signing right-hander Buddy Carlyle, left-hander Duane Below and infielder Marc Krauss to Minor League contracts with invitations to Spring Training. The club also signed lefty Andrew Barbosa to a Minor League deal.

Carlyle, who will turn 38 on Dec. 21, made 27 appearances with the Mets in 2014, posting a 1.45 ERA and a 28-to-5 strikeout-to-walk ratio over 31 innings. Carlyle then re-signed with New York and made the Opening Day roster, allowing five earned runs in eight innings before sustaining a season-ending right hip injury that required arthroscopic surgery in June.

Below also spent time in the Mets' organization in 2015, producing a 2.19 ERA over 11 games (five starts) with Triple-A Las Vegas. The 30-year-old pitched in 41 games for the Tigers from 2011-12 and last appeared in the Majors for the Marlins in '13.

Krauss, 28, split last season between the Angels, Rays and Tigers, batting .141/.173/.256 with two home runs and eight RBIs in 81 plate appearances. The left-handed hitter, who has played first base and both corner-outfield spots, produced a .200/.274/.341 line with 10 homers in 119 games for the Astros from 2013-14.

Barbosa, who will report to Minor League camp, has spent four seasons in the D-backs and Braves systems, rising as far as Double-A and posting a 3.65 ERA over 80 games (67 starts). Listed at 6-foot-8 and 230 pounds, Barbosa has struck out 11.0 batters per nine innings, but he's also walked 4.4.
