The New York Mets today announced the club has signed outfielder Roger Bernadina to a minor league contract with an invite to Major League Spring Training.
 
Bernadina, 31, played in parts of seven major league seasons from 2008-2014 with a majority of those years being spent with the Washington Nationals. In 2015, Bernadina played in 119 games and batted .276 (103-373) with 18 doubles, 15 home runs, 62 RBI and 20 stolen bases with Albuquerque (AAA) of the Pacific Coast League while playing in the Colorado Rockies organization.
 
The Willemstad, Curacao native last played in the majors with Los Angeles-NL in 2014 after opening that season with Cincinnati. He broke into the big leagues in 2008 with the Nationals before playing in a career-high 134 games in 2010. In 2012, he batted .291 (66-227) in 129 games with 11 doubles and 15 stolen bases.
 
He was originally signed by Montreal as a non-drafted free agent on November 3, 2001.
 
The 6-2, 200-pound Bernadina has batted .236 (312-1323) with 56 doubles, eight triples, 28 home runs, 121 RBI and 59 stolen bases in 548 career major league games with the Nationals, Phillies, Reds and Dodgers over seven seasons.
