Mets sign Scott Atchison

FLUSHING, N.Y., January 29, 2013 – The New York Mets today announced the club signed righthanded pitcher Scott Atchison to a Minor League contract with an invitation to Major League Spring Training.

Atchison, 36, spent last season with Boston, appearing in 42 games out of the bullpen and compiling a 2-1 record with a career-best 1.58 ERA (nine earned runs/51.1 innings). The 6-2, 200-pound native of Denton, TX ranked second in the American League, and fourth in the majors, in ERA among relievers with at least 50.0 innings pitched.

Originally selected in the 49th round of the 1998 First-Year Player Draft, Atchison made his debut in 2004 with Seattle. Over six major league seasons with the Mariners, San Francisco and the Red Sox, Atchison owns a 7-7 record and a 3.48 ERA (81 earned runs/209.2 innings) in 155 games, one start.
