Mets' first spring workout dates announced

January 11th, 2016

NEW YORK -- Freezing temperatures may finally be a fixture in New York City, but spring is fast approaching. Mets pitchers and catchers will formally work out for the first time on Feb. 19, according to Major League Baseball, with the first full-squad workout set for Feb. 26. The Mets previously announced that pitchers and catchers will report to Port St. Lucie, Fla., on Feb. 17.
The Mets' Grapefruit League schedule begins March 3 with a 1:05 p.m. ET game against the Nationals.
The Mets still have an item or two remaining on their offseason to-do list, including acquiring a right-handed backup outfielder. But the team in place now is largely the one that will report to Florida in February, featuring starting pitchers Matt Harvey, Jacob deGrom, Noah Syndergaard and Steven Matz as its headliners. New additions to the roster include middle infielders Neil Walker and Asdrubal Cabrera, and outfielder Alejandro De Aza.
