Mets win challenge on play at first base in eighth

Initially called out, Campbell reaches on single to knock Gallardo out of game

MILWAUKEE -- Mets manager Terry Collins won a challenge in the eighth inning of Friday's game that extended the inning and chased Brewers starter Yovani Gallardo from the game.

The challenge came when Eric Campbell, pinch-hitting for pitcher Vic Black with two outs, hit a ball up the middle that glanced off Gallardo's glove. Rickie Weeks got to the ball and made a difficult throw to first base, where Campbell was called out.

Collins challenged the play and the call was overturned, putting Campbell at first. The Brewers lifted Gallardo, but the Mets couldn't take advantage as reliever Will Smith struck out Curtis Granderson to end the inning.
