O's 'good atmosphere' welcoming to Bourn

Outfielder reported to camp Wednesday; Jones pleased with OF's return

February 22nd, 2017

SARASOTA, Fla. -- Orioles center fielder created a fuss when he said the team needed to improve its outfield defense.
Jones feels the Orioles must have faster, more athletic players in right and left field. Hyun Soo Kim is expected to play in left, while Seth Smith and could platoon in right.
On Monday, the Orioles signed to a Minor League contract. Bourn played the final month of the 2016 season with Baltimore.

Bourn reported on Wednesday, and he said that he's pleased to be back with the Orioles.
"I had a pretty good, strong month at the end of the year. It was fun. I was on a team that was winning, a chance to make the playoffs, in the race. That all plays into it, and it was a good atmosphere to be in," Bourn said.
Bourn, a 34-year-old veteran, batted .283 in 24 games with the Orioles after he was acquired on Aug. 31 from the D-backs.
Jones is happy the Orioles added both Bourn and , another defensive-minded veteran, who was signed on Saturday -- also to a Minor League deal.
"Those are two guys who have great track records of catching the ball. I'm thrilled to have them in camp, but what you have to understand is that the everyday players are probably going to be Trumbo and Kim or Seth and Kim," Jones said.
"You see that they're here, so that means that the team is -- not necessarily listening to me, but they've been watching the game. It's reality. You watch the game, and you see what we're lacking," Jones said.
"For us to be a contending team, and to get out of that first round and past that Wild Card, we need to improve."
Worth noting
The Orioles' scheduled intrasquad game was rained out. They'll play a five-inning game on Thursday morning.
