Brantley sits out third game with shoulder fatigue

Carrasco progressing with bullpen sessions

CLEVELAND -- Michael Brantley remained out of the starting lineup for the Indians on Friday, marking the third straight game the outfielder has missed due to right shoulder fatigue.
Manager Terry Francona indicated that Brantley was scheduled to have his shoulder, which was surgically repaired in November, re-examined by a team doctor prior to Friday's game against the Twins. Francona added that Cleveland should have more information Saturday as to whether Brantley can resume hitting, or if more rest will be required for the left fielder.
Francona said that it was "a bit premature" to think Brantley will require a stint on the disabled list.
"We will certainly do whatever the medical staff tells us we should do," Francona said. "He's doing pretty good. I think we just want to make sure he can continue to play when he does and not have to have setbacks. That's not fair to him."
Brantley began this season on the 15-day DL, but he was activated on April 25 after a Minor League rehab assignment. In his 11 games since rejoining the Indians, the left fielder has hit .231 (9-for-39) with two doubles, seven RBIs and six strikeouts. Brantley had arthroscopic surgery on Nov. 9 to repair a labral tear in his non-throwing shoulder.
"If we need to be more patient," Francona said, "and let him continue to get some treatment, we'll do that."
Carrasco back on a mound
Indians right-hander Carlos Carrasco, who has been on the 15-day DL since April 25 due to a left hamstring injury, threw off the mound on Friday at Progressive Field. Francona noted that Carrasco would threw another bullpen session on Monday before potentially advancing to a simulated game. The pitcher also continued to do agility work in the outfield on Friday.
"The fact that he's doing that is good, actually great," Francona said of the mound workouts. "He's doing really well with all his stuff. We'll just kind of listen to him and the medical people, but he's doing very well. [He's] probably 80-percent running, which I think is really well for the time period."
