Michael Saunders agrees to 2014 contract to avoid arbitration
SEATTLE, Wash. -- Seattle Mariners Executive Vice President & General Manager of Baseball Operations Jack Zduriencik today announced that the club has agreed to terms with outfielder Michael Saunders on a contract for the 2014 season. Per club policy, terms of the contracts were not disclosed.
By agreeing to terms with Saunders, the Mariners now have two remaining arbitration-eligible players, Justin Smoak and Logan Morrison.
Saunders, 27, has spent his entire professional career in the Mariners organization after being selected in the 11th round of the 2004 June Amateur Draft. The Victoria, British Columbia native has appeared in 475 Major League games since making his debut in 2009. Over the last two seasons he has hit 31 home runs and led the Mariners with 34 stolen bases.
