DETROIT -- Miguel Cabrera left Friday's 10-3 Tigers win over the White Sox in the seventh inning with lower back tightness, but the reigning American League batting champion appears likely to be back in the lineup for Saturday's showdown with Chris Sale.
Tigers manager Brad Ausmus said Cabrera tweaked his back in the previous at-bat, popping out two innings earlier. Replays showed Cabrera grimacing on his way to first base on a one-out RBI single in the seventh. Three batters later, his discomfort at third base drew the attention of Tigers head athletic trainer Kevin Rand.

Cabrera headed back to the dugout before Rand could reach him at third. Andrew Romine pinch-ran for him and stayed in the game at first base.
The Tigers announced Cabrera's situation as day to day.
"I spoke to him. He thinks he'll be fine tomorrow," Ausmus said. "But we'll wait and see in the morning."
Cabrera could get a slight break if need be as the designated hitter, with Victor Martinez filling in at first base.
Cabrera is 7-for-20 during a five-game hitting streak, raising his average on the season to .310. He leads the team with 12 home runs and a .934 OPS, while his 33 RBIs trail Victor Martinez by one.
