Miggy off to strong start in Tigers' Franchise Four voting

Miguel Cabrera already has the resume to rank among the greatest right-handed hitters in Major League history. Where he ranks right now among the greatest Tigers in history is a question worth tackling. The first Franchise Four balloting contest attempts to do that.

The initiative gives fans a chance to make their opinions on the four most impactful players in the history of each franchise, voting among a field of eight candidates. For the Tigers, the eight-man field essentially places the two faces of Detroit's current run of success among a group of Hall of Famers and one arguably should-be Hall of Famer.

So far, Cabrera ranks fairly strong, placing third in balloting among Tigers behind Hall of Famers Ty Cobb and Al Kaline. Hall of Famer Hank Greenberg currently holds the fourth spot ahead of Hall of Famers Charlie Gehringer and Sam Crawford, Hall of Fame candidate Alan Trammell and former American League MVP Justin Verlander.

More than 11.8 million votes have been cast in the Franchise Four voting, and you can cast your ballot here. Voting ends on May 8, and winners from all 30 clubs will be announced at the 2015 All-Star Game, which will take place on July 14 at Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati.
