Miggy works out with NFL prospect Jones

January 13th, 2016

DETROIT -- Miguel Cabrera is enjoying a healthy offseason for the first time in at least three years, which is giving him the chance to work out rather than rehab. It's also giving him a chance to work with some pretty good athletes -- even some from other sports.
After years of being referred to as a baseball player in a football player's body, Cabrera met Wednesday with Chris Jones, the Mississippi State defensive lineman who declared for the NFL Draft last week. Cabrera posted a photo on Instagram and Twitter.

Not many people make the 6-foot-4, 240-pound Cabrera look small. Jones, listed at 6-foot-6 and 308 pounds going into this past season, does. Cabrera joked in the post that Jones lifts weights as if they were plastic.

Cabrera, who lives in South Florida during the offseason, has posted a slew of workout photos this offseason, from swinging in the batting cage to pushing weight around. He has worked out frequently with Tigers teammate J.D. Martinez, who also lives in the area.
Jones recorded 44 tackles, 7 1/2 for a loss, with 2 1/2 sacks in his junior season. CBSSports.com ranked the second-team All-American as the seventh-best defensive tackle available, projected to go in the second round.
