Santana, Chen among four Royals free agents
Veteran pitchers could return to KC; Tejada, Pena likely to depart
KANSAS CITY -- Officially, four of the 147 free agents listed by the Major League Baseball Players Association on Thursday are Royals.
The primary two players are pitchers Ervin Santana and Bruce Chen. Both played big roles this year for the club, which has indicated interest in bringing both back next season.
Also on the list are infielder Miguel Tejada and first baseman Carlos Pena.
Tejada was on the restricted list after receiving a 105-game suspension from Major League Baseball on Aug. 17 for violation of the Joint Drug and Prevention Program. Pena was placed on the 60-day disabled list Sept. 17 because of an appendectomy. The Royals have indicated no interest in re-signing them.
