LOS ANGELES -- The Dodgers will activate Mike Bolsinger from the disabled list to start Wednesday night as they implement a six-man rotation at least one time through.
Bolsinger has been on a Minor League rehab assignment with Triple-A Oklahoma City after straining an oblique muscle during Spring Training. He has a 2.25 ERA in two starts for the OKC Dodgers.
The Dodgers want a sixth starter to provide pitchers with an extra day of rest while in the midst of a 20-day stretch without break. Their next scheduled off-day is May 26, when they travel to New York for a series against the Mets.
Clayton Kershaw will start Tuesday night in the homestand finale against the Angels, remaining on a five-day cycle. But Ross Stripling, credited with his first Major League victory Friday night, delayed his bullpen session a day until Monday, putting him on schedule to start Thursday in Anaheim.
A solid start from Bolsinger would likely trigger a competition with Stripling for the fifth-starter spot, at least until Hyun-Jin Ryu or Brandon McCarthy are ready for Major League action. Ryu (shoulder surgery) made his first rehab start on Sunday and McCarthy (elbow surgery), possibly within the next week.
Activating Bolsinger will require a corresponding roster move on Wednesday.
