Mike Trout of the Los Angeles Angels named the American League Player of the Month for June

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim center fielder Mike Trout has been voted the Budweiser Presents American League Player of the Month for June. Budweiser, the official beer sponsor of Major League Baseball and sponsor of 24 of 30 clubs, is also the presenting sponsor of the National League Player of the Month Award.

Trout batted .361 (30-for-83) with 10 doubles, one triple, seven homers, 21 RBI, 20 runs scored and five stolen bases to capture his second career Player of the Month Award, last accomplishing the feat in July 2012, when he also claimed his third of four A.L. Rookie of the Month Awards that season. Among league leaders in June with a minimum of 81 plate appearances, the 22-year-old finished first in on-base percentage (.471), slugging percentage (.759) and extra-base hits (18), was second in walks (18), tied for second in doubles, third in total bases (63), tied for third in homers, fourth in batting average and tied for fourth in RBI.

The right-handed-hitting Trout turned on the power in a late-inning comeback on June 7th against the Chicago White Sox. Trailing 5-1 in the home half of the eighth with no outs and the bases full of Angels, Trout launched his second career grand slam to knot the game at 5-5 in an eventual 6-5 victory at Angel Stadium. On June 14th in Atlanta, the New Jersey native went 3-for-6, finishing a triple shy of the cycle, with four RBI and two runs scored in an 11-6 triumph in 13 innings over the Atlanta Braves at Turner Field. Trout was one of three Angels with at least three base knocks in the game, a contest that saw the two teams combine for 31 hits overall. On June 17th, the former first round draft pick (by the Angels in 2009) collected three hits for the third time in four games, including a double, two homers and four RBI, to lead the Halos to a 9-3 win over the Cleveland Indians at Progressive Field. On June 24th against the Minnesota Twins, the 2012 A.L. Rookie of the Year homered, walked twice, had two RBI and scored two runs in an 8-6 victory in Anaheim. Two days later, the two-time Louisville Slugger Silver Slugger Award winner once again played the role of offensive catalyst as he went 2-for- 4 with a pair of doubles, two RBI and a run scored as the Angels topped the Twins, 6-4, to complete a three-game sweep.

Trout, who has finished second in A.L. Most Valuable Player Award voting in each of the last two campaigns, is near the top of several offensive categories in the A.L. heading into play today, ranking second in on-base percentage (.410), slugging percentage (.617) total bases (182) and extrabase hits (46), fifth in RBI (62), tied for fifth in homers (19) and seventh with a .315 batting average. A two-time All-Star, Trout currently has 4,085,647 votes in fan voting for the 2014 Midsummer Classic in Minnesota, the second-most among all A.L. players, trailing fellow outfielder Jose Bautista of the Toronto Blue Jays.

Others receiving votes this month included Houston's Jose Altuve (.411, 8 2B, 17 SB); Baltimore's Adam Jones (.348, 9 HR, 20 RBI); Chicago's Jose Abreu (.313, 10 HR, 22 RBI); Texas' Adrian Beltre (.392, 4 HR, 22 RBI); and Kansas City's Alcides Escobar (.374, 10 2B, 13 R) and Salvador Perez (.347, 5 HR, 16 RBI).

The Budweiser Presents American League Player of the Month, Mike Trout, will receive a specially designed trophy, suitably engraved, for his accomplishment.
