Angels outfielder ranks 3rd overall in AL votes with 2,324,597

June 21st, 2016

HOUSTON -- Mike Trout continued to distance himself from the rest of the American League outfielders on Tuesday, when the latest ballot revealed that the Angels' center fielder had compiled a whopping 2,324,597 fan votes for the All-Star Game.
That total ranked third overall in the AL, nearly 600,000 more than Red Sox center fielder Jackie Bradley Jr. (1,725,672) and nearly 900,000 more than Red Sox right fielder Mookie Betts (1,435,218).

Trout looks primed to make his fifth All-Star Game appearance and fourth start before his 25th birthday. The only other AL players to make four All-Star starts before the age of 25 are Ken Griffey Jr., Ivan Rodriguez, Mickey Mantle, Al Kaline and Joe DiMaggio, though Ted Williams would've likely joined the list had he not interrupted his career to serve in World War II.
Trout, who won't turn 25 until Aug. 7, entered Tuesday batting .298/.403/.529, while on pace for 32 homers, 109 RBIs and 21 stolen bases.
Royals catcher Salvador Perez (2,744,293) and Red Sox designated hitter David Ortiz (2,612,215) are the only AL players who have compiled more votes than Trout. In line to join the trio in the lineup are Royals first baseman Eric Hosmer, Astros second baseman Jose Altuve, Orioles third baseman Manny Machado, Red Sox shortstop Xander Bogaerts, Bradley and Betts. Orioles right fielder Mark Trumbo (1,408,195) and Royals center fielder Lorenzo Cain (1,403,617) are closing in on the third outfield spot.
No other Angels players are listed among the leaders.
