Minnesota Twins Announce Staff Changes

Minneapolis/St. Paul, MN – The Minnesota Twins announced today that they will not offer 2013 contracts to Third Base Coach Steve Liddle, Bullpen Coach Rick Stelmaszek, First Base Coach Jerry White and Head Athletic Trainer Rick McWane.  In addition, the Twins will reassign the positions of Scott Ullger and Joe Vavra.  Ullger will oversee outfield instruction while Joe Vavra will oversee infield instruction.

Liddle joined the Twins organization as a minor league player in 1987.  Liddle was named the Twins Minor League Field Coordinator in 1999 before joining the Twins major league staff in 2002.  Under Manager Gardenhire, Liddle served as the Twins Bench Coach until moving to Third Base Coach in 2011.      

Stelmaszek joined the Twins organization in 1978 as a player/manager for Single-A Wisconsin.  After three years with the Rapids, “Stelly” joined the Twins coaching staff in 1981 and served under Managers Billy Gardner, Ray Miller, Tom Kelly and Ron Gardenhire.  In all, Stelmaszek spent 32 years in the Twins organization.

White joined the Twins organization in 1987 as a minor league instructor.  He later joined the major league staff as the First Base Coach in 1998, a position he held through the 2012 season. White played in parts of 11 seasons with the Montreal Expos and St. Louis Cardinals.

McWane spent 24 seasons in the Twins organization and the last eight as the Head Athletic Trainer.  He served as the Triple-A trainer from 1996-2001 and Twins assistant trainer from 2002-2004.
