Fien, Arcia ready to begin rehab assignments

PITTSBURGH -- Twins reliever Casey Fien threw a bullpen session at Target Field without any issues on Wednesday, and is set to begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Rochester.

Fien, on the 15-day disabled list since April 30 with a right shoulder strain, previously threw a bullpen session on Sunday. The Twins haven't announced how many rehab appearances Fien will need before returning, but he's expected to be activated before the end of the month.

"He did fine. He's going to Rochester and he'll start a rehab assignment in the next day or two," Twins assistant general manager Rob Antony said. "He'll go out and pitch once and then have a day or two off. In a perfect world we'd like to see him pitch back-to-back days and come out fine. But I don't think we've circled a number of appearances or games or anything. But at the same time we want to make sure it's worthwhile so he's ready to come up."

Outfielder Oswaldo Arcia, on the DL since May 4 with a right hip flexor strain, is continuing to swing the bat and is expected to start a rehab assignment of his own later this week. Antony said it'll likely be with Triple-A Rochester.

Reliever Tim Stauffer is also set to make his fourth rehab appearance with Triple-A Rochester on Wednesday night. Stauffer has been on the DL since May 1 with a right intercostal strain.
