Twins lose challenge at first base in sixth

Call stands after replay shows Sox speedster Eaton safe on bang-bang play

MINNEAPOLIS -- Twins manager Ron Gardenhire unsuccessfully challenged a play at first base in the sixth inning of Sunday's game against the White Sox.

With Gordon Beckham at third base and one out, Adam Eaton smashed a hard-hit grounder to first baseman Chris Parmelee with the infield in. Parmelee looked home after making the diving stop, and scrambled to get back to first base in an attempt to beat a sliding Eaton to the bag.

Eaton was ruled safe on the play by first-base umpire Tony Randazzo, but Gardenhire came out to challenge the play. The call on the field stood after a review of one minute, 50 seconds.

It was the 22nd challenge issued by Gardenhire this season, and he's had 11 calls overturned.

After the review, Alexei Ramirez tied the game with a sacrifice fly before Jose Abreu scored Eaton on a two-out double to give the White Sox a 2-1 lead.
