Schulz, Torres, Moreno homers power Missions, Storm

De Los Santos allows one hit over five innings at Lake Elsinore

Outfielders Nick Schulz and Nick Torres homered Monday night as Double-A San Antonio moved above .500 in the second half, and right-handed starter Enyel De Los Santos allowed one hit over five shutout innings as Class A Advanced Lake Elsinore continued its second-half surge.

Outfielders Nick Schulz and Nick Torres homered Monday night as Double-A San Antonio moved above .500 in the second half, and right-handed starter Enyel De Los Santos allowed one hit over five shutout innings as Class A Advanced Lake Elsinore continued its second-half surge.

But the news wasn't all good in the Padres' Minor League system.

Chris Paddack, the right-handed pitcher acquired from Miami in the Fernando Rodney trade, felt shoulder discomfort while warming up before his start in the first game of a doubleheader for Class A Fort Wayne, and he departed the mound without making an official pitch. There were no immediate updates of the injury.

Right fielder Schulz (.283) was 1-for-3 with his fifth homer, four RBIs, a walk and two runs scored as the Missions defeated Corpus Christi, 10-4, in San Antonio in a game shortened to 7 1/2 innings by rain.

Torres (.280) was 3-for-4 with his sixth homer, two RBIs and two runs scored as San Antonio improved to 16-15 in the second half after a 22-48 first half.

Center fielder Franchy Cordero (.330) was 3-for-5 with a steal and two runs scored. Third baseman River Stevens (.256) was 2-for-4 with his third homer. First baseman Luis Tejada (.284) was 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Shortstop Jose Rondon (.277) was 1-for-2 with a RBI.

Starting right-hander Kyle Lloyd (5-4, 3.73 ERA) allowed four runs on six hits with five strikeouts in seven innings to get the win. Left-handed reliever Kyle McGrath (1.30 ERA) allowed a hit with a strikeout in a scoreless inning.

At Lake Elsinore, De Los Santos (2-3, 5.40 ERA) issued two walks while allowing four hits with four strikeouts over five scoreless innings as the Storm (20-11, 52-49) defeated Lancaster, 4-3.

Left fielder Edwin Moreno (.253) was 2-for-4 with his 12th homer and drove in all four Storm runs. Catcher A.J. Kennedy (.297) was 1-for-3 with a run scored. Shortstop Javier Guerra (.204) was 1-for-3 with a run scored.

Right-hander Colby Blueberg (2.68) followed De Los Santos and allowed a run on two hits and two walks with a strikeout in 2 1/3 innings. Right-hander Phil Maton (1.71) allowed two runs on two hits and a walk with three strikeouts in 1 2/3 innings to get his sixth save.

CF Alan Garcia (.174) was 2-for-6. RHP Blake Rogers (5.77 ERA) started the first game and allowed a run on three hits and two walks with two strikeouts in 3 2/3 innings. RHP Corey Kimber (2-1, 4.34) allowed four runs on four hits and a walk with a strikeout in 2 1/3 innings to suffer the loss. RHP Anderson Espinosa (0-1, 7.04) started the second game and allowed two runs on four hits and two walks with three strikeouts in 4 2/3 innings to suffer the loss. RHP David Bednar (7.20) allowed a hit with two strikeouts in 1 1/3 scoreless innings.

CLASS A SHORT-SEASON TRI-CITY (19-19) -- HILLSBORO 3, DUST DEVILS 0: C Kyle Overstreet (.213) was 2-for-4. LF Taylor Kohlwey (.247) had a triple in three at-bats with a walk. Starting RHP Angel Mejia (1-2, 4.58 ERA) allowed three runs (one earned) on 11 hits and two walks with two strikeouts in 5 2/3 innings. RHP Adrian De Horta (4.91) struck out three in 2 1/3 perfect innings. RHP Will Stillman (0.69) had a strikeout in a perfect inning.

ROOKIE-LEVEL ARIZONA PADRES (12-16) -- ATHLETICS 11, PADRES 9: 1B Luis Anguizola (.297) was 3-for-4 with a double, his first homer, three RBIs and three runs scored. C Jose Lezama (.304) was 3-for-4 with a walk, two RBIs and two runs scored. 2B Denzell Gowdy (.302) was 3-for-5 with two RBIs. LF Dayon Olmo (.271) had a double and triple in six at-bats with a run scored. 3B Carlos Sosa was 1-for-2 with two walks. Starting RHP Mayky Perez (2-2, 3.86 ERA) allowed six runs (five earned) on seven hits and two walks with seven strikeouts in 4 2/3 innings. RHP Grant Zawadzki (5.02) allowed two runs (one earned) on two hits and a walk with three strikeouts in 1 1/3 innings. RHP Dom DiSabatino (11.57) struck out two in a perfect inning. RHP Juan Arias (13.86) allowed three runs on four hits with a strikeout in an inning. LHP Ben Sheckler (3.00) issued a walk with a strikeout in an otherwise perfect inning.

RHP Jonathan Guzman (2.66) allowed two hits and a walk with a strikeout in two innings to complete the shutout. SS Kelvin Melean (.213) was 2-for-3 with a walk, a steal, a RBI and a run scored. C Janigson Villalobos (.279) was 1-for-2 with two walks and a RBI. CF Angel Santos (.275) was 0-for-2 with two walks, a steal and a run scored.
