MLB appoints Tony Reagins as SVP, Youth Programs

Baseball Commissioner Robert D. Manfred, Jr. announced today that he has appointed Tony Reagins to serve as Major League Baseball's Senior Vice President for Youth Programs, a new role in which the longtime baseball executive will oversee the league's expanded focus on youth baseball participation. Reagins will report to MLB Chief Operating Officer Tony Petitti.

Commissioner Manfred said: "Tony's experience as a general manager and as a farm director will be a great asset as Major League Baseball sets out to bring more people into our game, at all levels and from all communities. I believe that Tony will be a bridge between the Commissioner's Office and the college, high school, amateur and youth baseball programs that we will reach more efficiently in the years ahead."

Reagins said: "I would like to thank Commissioner Manfred and Tony Petitti for affording me the opportunity to steer Major League Baseball's youth baseball initiatives. I look forward to working with the staff in the Commissioner's Office as well as the many youth baseball organizations around the country. This is an area in which I have great passion and I am thrilled to have a chance to impact young lives in a positive way, grow our game and pass on the traditions of our rich history."

Reagins, 48, was the general manager of the Los Angeles Angels for four seasons (2008 through 2011), during which time the Club won two American League West titles and appeared in the 2009 American League Championship Series. Prior to becoming GM, Reagins spent six years as the Angels' Director of Player Development, overseeing the seven affiliates in the Club's minor league system. He served in that position when the Angels won their first World Series in Club history in 2002. The California native originally joined the franchise in 1992 and also worked in several marketing capacities before shifting back to baseball operations in 1998.

Reagins graduated from California State University, Fullerton with a degree in marketing. In the last several years, he has served on the Board of Directors of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Coachella Valley.
