MLB personalities make ALDS predictions

The Wild Card round is in the books, and it's time to turn our attention to the Division Series. But who will win? MLB.com staff members -- including studio analysts, columnists and editors -- shared their predictions for the results of both American League match-ups, which begin today. The Orioles host the Tigers at 5:30 p.m. ET on TBS, while the Angels welcome the Royals at 9 p.m. ET, also on TBS.

The Orioles will come to play, but in the end I think it'll be hard for them to beat Max Scherzer, David Price and Justin Verlander in three of five games.

LAA over KC
The veterans of the Angeles will be too much for this young and feisty Royals team. Albert Pujols was brought in for these kind of moments.

The edge in starting pitching goes to Detroit, and that is supposed to be the October edge.

LAA over KC
The Angels have played the best baseball in the game this season. This is no time to stop.

The O's will overcome Detroit's three Cy Young Award winners thanks to a superior bullpen and Buck Showalter's expertise.

LAA over KC
The Angels have more experience and star power, thanks to Mike Trout and Pujols. The Royals expended too much energy beating Oakland and won't have James Shields until Game 3.

DET over BAL
Price and Scherzer give Detroit a significant edge in starting pitching, and I'll bank my postseason picks on starting pitching.

KC over LAA
Better starting pitching, better bullpen, better defense make the AL Wild Card club the better bet.

DET over BAL
Maybe the most evenly matched series, but I think, ultimately, the Tigers' starters will quell the Baltimore bats. The winner of this series will represent the AL in the World Series.

KC over LAA
Deeper starting staff rules the day… as long as Ned Yost doesn't get in the way.

Jim Duquette
MLB.com studio analyst

BAL over DET
Orioles lineup has too much firepower against a weaker Tigers bullpen.

LAA over KC
The Angels have too many weapons and are too experienced vs. an inexperienced and youthful Kansas City team.

The Orioles aren't without their shortcomings, like most of the playoff teams that aren't the Nationals. But the Tigers' bullpen is worrisome -- to put it nicely. I can't see it holding up against playoff-caliber teams.

LAA over KC
The Angels have issues, but they still managed to end up with the best record in the AL. The Halos are rested and more experienced than the Royals, and that will work to their advantage.

Very evenly matched series, with Baltimore's pitching superiority giving the O's an edge

LAA over KC
You have to love the Royals' mojo, but the magic runs out against the AL's top team.

Terence Moore

DET over BAL
Nobody in baseball has more overall talent than the Tigers, and they'll show it emphatically -- at least during the ALDS.

LAA over KC
The Royals have been a nice fairy tale so far, but now that the Angels have replaced "potential" with "ability," there will be no glass-slipper-action here.

Jeff Nelson
MLB.com studio analyst

DET over BAL
Scherzer, Verlander and Price are too much for the Orioles.

LAA over KC
The Angels' rotation will shut down the Royals' running game.

Richard Justice
MLB.com columnist

DET over BAL
The star power of Scherzer, Miguel Cabrera and Verlander will be the difference.

KC over LAA
The Royals are riding an emotional wave, and I think that will carry them.

Tracy Ringolsby
MLB.com columnist

DET over BAL
Torii Hunter is on a mission, and it won't be completed until he has a ring.

KC over LAA
Pitching wins in October and Royals have more of it.

Steve Sax
MLB.com studio analyst

BAL over DET
There just seems to be some magic about this Orioles team and the Tigers just seem to be missing a cylinder.

LAA over KC
Mike Scioscia understands the Royals' small-ball tactics and has a great perspective on how to shut down the running game as a former catcher.

Carlton Thompson
MLB.com VP, executive editor

BAL over DET
The O's have seemingly overachieved all year, and that won't stop now.

LAA over KC
The Angels' bullpen is better than people realize, and they have Trout.
