CHICAGO -- A decision on a two-game series scheduled for May 30-31 in San Juan, Puerto Rico, to celebrate Roberto Clemente Day will be made soon by Major League Baseball, Commissioner Rob Manfred said on Thursday at U.S. Cellular Field.
"I do expect we will have an announcement either tomorrow or, at the very latest, on Monday," Manfred said on Thursday about the scheduled May matchup between the Marlins and Pirates.
There has been concern over playing the games in Puerto Rico, where there have been more than 600 cases of the Zika virus, according to the Center for Disease Control. The games are home games for the Marlins and, in the event of a change, would be moved back to Miami, Manfred said.
"We are in the process of still having discussions with a variety of interested parties, mostly outside the game, to make sure that every individual that has an interest, that we've had conversations with them, before we make a final decision and announcement," Manfred said. "I really can't say more than that."
