Save these dates: MLB releases 2017 Padres schedule

September 14th, 2016

SAN FRANCISCO -- Major League Baseball unveiled its 2017 schedule, and for the second year in a row, the Padres will be a part of three Opening Day ceremonies.
They'll open the 2017 season in Los Angeles on April 3, before hosting the Giants for the home opener at Petco Park on April 7 -- a Friday. Then, the Padres have the honor of opening Atlanta's new SunTrust Park on April 14.
According to a club press release, the majority of weekday games will begin at 7:10 p.m. PT, with the exception of some 12:40 or 6:10 starts on getaway days.
2017 Padres schedule
As the team announced last month, the 7:40 p.m. starts on Friday nights are a thing of the past. But the Padres will continue with their 1:40 p.m. start times on Sundays and certain holidays.
One twist of the schedule sees the Padres facing the entire American League Central, along with the Texas Rangers. It marks the first time since Interleague Play began in 1997 that the Padres will not play the Mariners as their American League rival.
Among AL clubs, Petco Park will play host to Texas (May 8-9), Kansas City (June 9-11), Detroit (June 23-25) and Minnesota (Aug. 1-2).
The Padres will also host the Cubs on Memorial Day and the Cardinals on Labor Day, with both games starting at 1:40 p.m. The Friars will wrap up their home slate with a four-game set against Colorado, from Sept. 21-24, before ending the season with a three-game series in Los Angeles and a three-game series in San Francisco.
