ST. PETERSBURG -- Yoan Moncada and Andrew Benintendi, two prospects who created anticipation and excitement as soon as they became professional baseball players, will represent the Red Sox at the SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game in San Diego on July 10.
Second baseman Moncada and outfielder Benintendi started the season together at Class A Advanced Salem and both received recent promotions to Double-A Portland. Moncada is the club's top-rated prospect, while Benintendi ranks third.

A Cuban switch-hitter with all five tools at his disposal, Moncada, who will play on the World Team, was signed by the Red Sox to a $31.5 million contract -- a record for an amateur -- in February 2014.
The diminutive Benintendi, who is on the U.S. Team, was the seventh overall pick by the Red Sox in the 2015 Draft. A star hitter at the University of Arkansas, Benintendi has risen quickly through the Red Sox's farm system.

Benintendi, who turns 22 next week, is hitting .302 with four homers, 54 RBIs and has an .853 OPS in 70 games this season. He also has 12 stolen bases.
The 21-year-old Moncada is hitting .306 with five homers, 38 RBIs and 36 stolen bases.
The 18th edition of the Futures Game will take place at Petco Park in San Diego (7 p.m. ET on MLB Network). Rosters for the prospect-filled game were announced on Tuesday, and as has become the tradition of the game, it is jam-packed with talent that will soon be filling big league rosters.

Even in a loaded Red Sox Minor League system, Moncada and Benintendi stand out as special prospects. Just 21 years old, Moncada has hit .291 with a .396 on-base percentage and 85 steals since joining Boston's farm system last season. Although the second baseman may not reach Boston in 2016, he's nonetheless an extremely coveted dynasty-league asset given his potential to impact mixed leagues as soon as next year. Benintendi, meanwhile, may have a greater chance of reaching the Majors in '16 -- even if his talent ceiling is lower than Moncada's. Having struggled to find solid production in left field as well as on the pitching front, Boston could opt to target arms on the trade market and give Benintendi -- the owner of a lifetime Minor League .307/.388/.516 slash line -- a chance to join the postseason push.
