Monarchs, Mo'ne honored in Cincinnati

CINCINNATI -- The Anderson Monarchs, a barnstorming youth team from Philadelphia, continued their 23-day, 21-city tour on Wednesday with a stop in the Queen City.

The Monarchs, who feature 2014 Little League World Series star Mo'ne Davis, were honored on the field before the rubber game between the Reds and Twins. Davis and a few of her teammates threw out the first pitches, before playing later at the P&G Cincinnati MLB Urban Youth Academy against players from the Six Men Tigers and Avondale A's.

The Monarchs have been traveling across the country in an authentic 1947 bus to pay tribute to Jackie Robinson, the Negro Leagues and the civil rights movement.

"The tour so far has been pretty fun," Davis said. "We've gone to a lot of historic sites, which gave us a better understanding of everything, and we've all enjoyed it."

Davis made headlines last summer when she became the first girl to win a game during the Little League World Series. While she said had a great time last summer playing in Williamsport, Pa., she said she'll never forget her experiences on this tour.

"None of us will ever forget this tour because of what we've learned and just all the things we got to do," Davis said. "Just one of those summers that you'll never forget."

The Monarchs' tour is expected to wrap up on July 10, after making stops in the Northeast region.
