Moore targeting weekend for mound session

PHOENIX -- Matt Moore (left-elbow soreness) played catch on Wednesday and moved out as far as 90 feet while doing so. He continues to feel no pain.

"So we're going to take [Thursday] off, do the same type of treatment and get ready for Friday's game of catch," Moore said. "If it goes like it did today, we'll probably have some side work Saturday or Sunday."

Moore noted that the side work could come off a mound, which would be the first time he's thrown off a mound since his last start (July 28) before going on the disabled list July 31.

"If things go accordingly on Friday and Saturday, I would see Sunday as the best day," Moore said.

Moore agreed that his progress has been encouraging.

"Absolutely," Moore said. "I think it was a good decision for them to bring me on the road. Makes me happy that at least they think I'm where I think I am. Hopefully I can get off the mound this road trip."

Moore is optimistic that his return could come quickly if he throws off a mound and all goes well.
