Eovaldi feels 'great' following bullpen session

BALTIMORE -- Yankees right-hander Nathan Eovaldi threw a 25-pitch bullpen session before Friday's game was postponed and declared that he has totally recovered from a sore right elbow.

Eovaldi hasn't pitched since sustaining the injury on Sept. 5. He has posted a 14-3 record and a 4.20 ERA in 27 starts this season.

If his progression continues, Eovaldi will pitch out of the bullpen should the Yankees win the American League Wild Card Game presented by Budweiser on Tuesday at 8 p.m. ET (watch on ESPN) and advance to the AL Division Series.

"He threw a bullpen today and it was good," manager Joe Girardi said. "So now, Tuesday's out of the question. Moving forward after that, it's something we will look at.

"See how he feels tomorrow. See when his next throwing session will be and we'll go from there."

Eovaldi said he came out of the Friday session feeling no pain and that he hasn't experienced any pain since the initial soreness last month.

"Everything felt great," Eovaldi said after the session. "I threw 25 pitches, 18 of them fastballs and seven of them splits. Moving forward. I'm definitely ready to get going. I've just been going through the process, taking it slow and trying to stay healthy. I have a day off from throwing, a day of catch and another bullpen [on Monday], 35 pitches. We'll see what happens after that."

As far as relieving goes, Eovaldi has some experience doing it, making four relief appearances during his rookie season with the Dodgers in 2011. He has made 100 big league appearances since then. All of them starts.

"I'm fine with it," Eovaldi said. "I don't think it will be much of an adjustment. I get ready really quick. My arm doesn't take long to get loose. I don't think it will be an issue. Whatever I can do to help the team."
